Infection Prevention and Control at Riverfront Dental
Patient safety is a priority at Riverfront Dental. Our Cambridge clinic follows set steps to keep germs from spreading. We clean, disinfect and sterilize dental tools and the surfaces around you. Sterilizing goes a step beyond cleaning and disinfecting, and it is designed to destroy the germs on a tool. This page explains what happens between one patient and the next.
How are dental instruments sterilized at Riverfront Dental?
Our team cleans and prepares each reusable tool first. Then we sterilize it in our sterilization equipment. After that, the tools stay protected until your appointment. Our sterilization area is laid out so tools move one way only: from cleaning, to sterilizing, to storage. We follow the maker's instructions for each machine.
How do you check that sterilization works?
Riverfront Dental uses monitoring checks to confirm that our sterilizing process works. These checks show that each cycle got hot enough, for long enough, to kill germs on the tools. Want to know more about how we check our equipment? Ask any member of our team at your next visit.
How are treatment rooms cleaned between patients?
Between every patient, our team cleans and disinfects the treatment room and the surfaces people touch often. That includes the dental chair and the surfaces around it. Team members wear gloves, masks and other protective gear that suits each procedure. These steps protect you, the next patient and our staff.
Who sets infection control rules for Ontario dental offices?
In Ontario, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) sets the infection control standard that dental offices must follow. It covers hand washing, protective gear, sterilizing tools, cleaning the office and the water lines that feed dental equipment. Riverfront Dental follows the infection control rules that apply to our practice. You can read the RCDSO infection prevention and control standard yourself.
