Dental Insurance and Payment Options in Cambridge
Most patients at Riverfront Dental pay only their share of the bill at the visit. We direct bill most private insurance plans and the Canadian Dental Care Plan, and we accept Healthy Smiles Ontario. Not sure how your plan works? Call (519) 621-2111 and our team can go through it with you before you book.
Which insurance plans does Riverfront Dental accept?
Riverfront Dental accepts most private dental insurance plans, including Canada Life, Sun Life, Manulife and OTIP. We also accept two public programs: the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and Healthy Smiles Ontario for children and youth. If you do not see your plan named here, call us. We can tell you how it works at our clinic before your first visit.
Plans and programs we accept include:
- Canada Life, Sun Life, Manulife and OTIP
- Other private workplace and individual dental plans
- The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)
- Healthy Smiles Ontario
How does direct billing work at Riverfront Dental?
Direct billing means Riverfront Dental sends your claim to your insurance company for you. Your insurer pays its share straight to the clinic, and you pay the rest at your visit. You do not pay the full fee up front and then wait to be paid back. To set it up, bring your insurance card or plan details to your first appointment.
To bill your plan, we need:
- The name of your insurance company
- Your policy or group number and your member ID
- The plan member's name and date of birth, if the plan belongs to your spouse or parent
Some plans do not accept claims from a dental office. If yours is one of them, you pay at the visit and send the claim to your insurer yourself. We give you the details you need to claim.
How much will my insurance cover?
Your coverage depends on your plan, not on the clinic. Many workplace plans pay a larger share for checkups and cleanings than for crowns, bridges or orthodontics. Most plans also have a yearly maximum and limits on how often they pay for some services. Your plan booklet or your insurer's app shows your exact percentages. For larger treatment, ask us to send a predetermination first.
Predetermination: know your share before treatment
A predetermination is a cost estimate we send to your insurance company before treatment. Your insurer replies with how much it will pay. You then know your own share before you decide. It is most useful for crowns, bridges, implants, root canals and orthodontic treatment.
Does Riverfront Dental accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
Yes. Riverfront Dental is a participating Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) provider. If you are enrolled, we bill the plan directly through Sun Life, which processes CDCP claims for the federal government. Depending on your family income, you may pay a co-payment for some services. Some treatments also need approval before we start. Our CDCP page explains who qualifies and how to apply.
Healthy Smiles Ontario for children and youth
Healthy Smiles Ontario is a free dental program from the Government of Ontario for children and youth 17 and under in eligible households. It covers checkups, cleanings, fillings, X-rays, scaling, tooth extractions and urgent care. It does not cover cosmetic work such as whitening or braces. Riverfront Dental accepts Healthy Smiles Ontario. Bring your child's Healthy Smiles Ontario dental card to every visit.
Can I see a dentist without insurance?
Yes. You do not need insurance to be a patient at Riverfront Dental. Fees shown are the clinic's listed fees. Please contact us about your insurance coverage and any questions about costs. Before larger treatment, we go over the cost with you whenever possible. That way you can decide with the numbers in front of you.
Payment plans arranged in the clinic
Riverfront Dental arranges payment plans in the clinic. We do not use an outside financing company. If the cost of a treatment plan is a concern, ask our team when you book or at your visit. They can talk through what is possible for your treatment.
What should I ask my insurer before treatment?
A short call to your insurance company before larger treatment can prevent surprises. Have the treatment name or the fee code from your estimate ready. Then ask your insurer these questions:
- What percentage of this treatment does my plan cover?
- How much of my yearly maximum is left?
- Is there a waiting period or a limit on how often this is covered?
- Do you need a predetermination before treatment?
